Cell Organelles

Cell Organelles By: Tiana Williams & Tiffany Ross What is a cell? A CELL IS THE SMALLEST UNIT THAT CAN PERFORM ALL LIFE PROCESSES. 1. ALL LIVING THINGS ARE MADE OF CELLS 2. CELLS ARE THE BASIC UNIT OF STUCTURE & FUNCTION IN LIVING THINGS.

3. LIVING CELLS COME ONLY FROM OTHER LIVING CELLS. Cell Theory There are 2 types of cells Eukaryotic Eu: True Karyote: Nuclueus Contain membrane bound organells Plants and Animals

Prokaryotic Pro: Before Karyote: Nucleus Does Not Contain A Nuclues! (Bacteria) Eukaryotic consists of two groups Plants Animals

Cell Wall Ribosomes Lysosomes Mitochondria Cholorplasts Nucleus

Vacuole Flagella Ribosomes Lysosomes Mitochondria Nucleus

Vacuole Cell organelles Mitochondria: produces energy (ATP) through cellular respiration Rough E.R.: transport & store proteins Smooth E.R: creates lipids/fat Ribosomes: creates proteins Chloroplast: conducts photosynthesis

Golgi Apparatus: packages & releases proteins Lysosomes: contains enzymes that helps break down molecules Cytoplasm: holds all the organelles in place Vacuole: contains food/water Cell organelles Cilia: hair-like structures Flagellum: tail, movement

Nuclear Envelope: surrounds the nucleus Cell Membrane: the bouncer -semi permeable: allows certain molecules in -made of phospholopids Cell Wall: gives structure & shape, provides protection Nucleus: command center -stores DNA Nucleolus: site of ribosome

synthesis Microtubules: provides internal support Chromatin: threadlike mass of DNA QUIZ!!! Which of the following organelles is involved in protein synthesis?

A. Chloroplast B. Ribosomes C. Vacuole D. Nucleus B If the nucleus is a cells control center, which of the following might be called the cells garbage dispenser ?

A. Mitochondria B. Nuclues C. Lysosome D. Chloroplast C Which organelle is the powerhouse of the cell and what does it produce?

A. MitochondriaEnergy/Atp B. ChlorplastGlucose C. NucleusDna D. RibosomesProteins A.

True/False : The flagellum is associated with cell movement. True True/false: both the animal cell and the plant cell contains a cell wall False If a plant cell loses all its water, which organelle is not functioning properly?

A. Nucleus B. Vacuole C. Lysosome D. Ribosomes B. What is the purpose of the cytoplasm?

A. To create proteins B. To hold all the organelles in place C. To store food and water D. To produce ATP B.

True/false: Prokaryotes contain a nucleus False, prokaryotes do not contain a nucleus Which of the following correctly matches an organelle with its function?

A. Mitochondrionprotein synthesis B. Central Vacuolestorage C. Lysosomemovement D. Nucleuscellular respiration B. Which of the following does not apply to the chloroplast? A. They contain chlorophyll and the enzymes recquired for photosynthesis B. They contain an internal membrane system consisting of thylakoids

C. They synthesize ATP from ADP D. They are bounded by two membranes, the inner of which is folded into cristae D. Cell Labeling http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/health/ anatomy/cell/cell_game.htm
