Blockchain workshop

Salt Lake Community Blockchain Syllabus Workshop Jan Feb 2017 Instructed by Mark Rees Copyright Mark Rees 2017 Blockchain Workshop Goals and Expectations The Goal: The workshop is open to the public as a community education effort. Registration for the course is required as seating is limited. The intended audience is expected to know very little about blockchain technologies. It will introduce several concepts that are likely to be very foreign and at times difficult to get ones head around. Very few people understand all of these concepts the first time through. Repeat as necessary. Time and Location: Intermountain Healthcare Lake Park Building at 4646 Lake Park Blvd in West Valley City. First floor Auditorium. Thursdays at 5:30 TO 7:30 pm. This will also be broadcast via WebEx for participants who register with the workshop prior January 5, 2017. What to expect: People often remark that learning about the ramifications of the blockchain is like taking the red pill from the movie The Matrix. My role is to act as a guide down the rabbit hole . Your version of reality may be seen through a different lens and you may not see the world in the same way again. Some concepts will require temporary suspended disbelief until further related concepts are understood that connect two or more concepts. Confusion and temporary discomfort due to the challenge of ones preexisting paradigm beliefs are common sideeffects but will decrease in time with further understanding. Prepare to come with an open mind. Most important is the sense of adventure, and having fun. Workshop Structure: The course will begin promptly on time and will be broken into two sections approximately one hour each with a ten minute break in-between. Quiz: After the first week, a 10 question quiz will be given at the beginning of the night. For those attending in person: The workshop will be interactive so please feel free to ask questions at any time . If you are attending remotely, please write your questions down as they arise but kindly hold them until the end as instruction flow will make difficult to acknowledge remote questions in real-time . In addition, various workshop activities are planned. I highly recommended attending in person if possible . Questions and Answers: Approximately 10 minutes at the end of each day will be reserved for questions and answers. The instructor will stay a few minutes later after the formal instruction period to answer more questions during the facility cleanup period. A list of follow-up additional assignments involving You-Tube will be given each week pertaining to the information taught each session. What do you need to bring? Feel free to bring a laptop, pen\notebook paper. Your smartphone could also be useful. Please no recording of video is permitted during the presentations. Please note that the presentation slide deck will not be provided to the participants during the instruction period. No material should be interpreted in any way as investment advice. This workshop is independent of any sponsorship or endorsement, implied or otherwise as a community driven effort for education in blockchain concepts. All concepts involve individual interpretations as blockchain science is new. Some information may be based solely on the educated but sometimes possible biased opinions of the instructor.
